Advising

Tykeson College and Career Advising – Opening Fall 2019

The Tykeson College and Career Advising in Willie and Donald Tykeson Hall is UO’s new advising center, located on 13th Avenue, between Johnson and Chapman Halls. At Tykeson Hall, you can work with professional College and Career Advisors who can help you explore your interests, schedule your classes, plan for graduation, discuss career interests, and more.

You can schedule appointments with our Tykeson College and Career Advising team via the EAB Navigate app available in the App Store or Google Play. Please visit the Office of Academic Advising’s website for information about appointments and hours of operation.

What does this mean for Theatre Arts Majors?

Theatre Arts is now part of the “Media, Arts, & Expression” Flight Path!

Each Flight Path represents an academic and career theme and includes majors and minors from across the university that fit in the theme. Flight Paths will serve as a framework for advising all students, beginning with exploring students, who will receive advising in Tykeson Hall. Each path has a group of dedicated professional academic and career advisors who will serve as the points of contact for exploring student advising. Exploring students will select a Flight Path that best reflects their interests. Declared students will be assigned Flight Path(s) according to their declared majors.

More on Flight Paths here: https://advising.uoregon.edu/flight-paths

Theatre Arts majors will generally seek advising through the Tykeson Career Advising/Flight Path Team, especially when you’re a newly declared freshman or still “exploring” majors. However, there are some exceptions, and all of our Theatre Arts faculty are happy to meet with students and are active advisors.

Here is a chart on where to go for help:

Please note that all exceptions to the Theatre Arts Major requirements must be approved by a Theatre Arts Advisor and signed off on by the Department Head.

The role of the Tykeson adviser

Students should initiate meetings with a Tykeson adviser at least twice each year. Advising is critical when considering changes to the plan of study and at all the important thresholds of the major: declaring a major or minor, choosing focus fields, considering the Comparative Literature Honors Track, preparing for graduation, considering graduate study or employment, and so on.

After September 16, 2019, you can schedule appointments with advisors in the new Tykeson College and Career Advising team via the EAB Navigate app available in the App Store or Google Play.

The College of Arts and Sciences will be sending you additional information about Tykeson College and Career Advising in Fall 2019. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions in the meantime.
